In heaping so many accolades in spearheading the information technology revolution, to me, Bill Gates major impact to the lives of the poor has been somewhat zeroed in to his recent charity work, particularly on medical research, rather than to the long standing positive impact of his software’s to various forms of poverty while he was still at the helm unleashing wide-ranging products in perpetuating the software dominance of the company he founded.
Many argued his products’ pricing has alienated a large number of possible consumers who can’t afford them as they’re just way beyond their means. In fact, the rise of free and open source developments are seemingly an unconscious/conscious retaliation to the high cost of software on sale in the market, majority of which are coming from his.
But looking at the real stories of the lives of people directly and indirectly affected by his software, this is not usually often the case.
